De pequeño era muy fan de todo lo que tenía que ver con la Navidad. Sobre todo de los belenes. Ahora es algo que, simplemente, ni me va ni me viene. Eso sí, uno como el de Sebastian Bergne no me importaría nada tenerlo.
Toda en la escena se puede reconocer viendo estos bloques de madera coloreados, de diferentes tamaños.
Preserves

Inspirada en los antiguos tarros para guardar fruta, Preserves colección del diseñador Londinense Mathias Hahn, tiene todos los componentes que más nos gustan en el diseño. Un buen uso de formas simples, una combinación de materiales, texturas y colores adecuada y una línea compositiva de la colección más que atractiva.
No solo se limita a jugar con madera, acero, hormigón y vidrio, además juega con tintes en los vidrios y difuminados, haciendo que los objetos en su conjunto adquieran un significado diferente al que tendrían por separado.

Fibonacci Cabinet

La primera vez que lees algo sobre la proporción áurea te maravilla. Luego empiezas a encontrarlo en muchos sitios, en lugares, cosas, hasta el punto de llegar a obsesionarte. Cada vez que ves un objeto, o una planta, un alado o una sección de un plano arquitectónico te obcecas por sacar alguna relación áurea. Algo tan bien pensando, tan bien construído, debe de tener esa magnífica proporción por algún sitio.
Y muchas veces, por no decir casi siempre, la encuentras.
Luego está lo obvio. Cuando lo ves directamente y solo puedes que enamorarte. Como pasa con esta maravilla de bambú.

The design idea comes from the traditional Chinese medicine cabinet, of which all the drawers are in the same size. In order to satisfy the multi- functional requirement, we apply Fibonacci Sequence, which is also called Golden Section for the intimately connection with the golden ratio, to rearrange every size of these units in series. The Fibonacci Sequence is a series of numbers: {0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, … } , in which the next number is found by adding up the two numbers before it.
This design is composed of seven units, a big cabinet on the top, five drawers and a Chinese table on the bottom, which could be used separately and combined freely according to different requirements and different places.

Northern Star es la nueva colección y el lookbook ya está aquí. Como siempre, maravilla de diseños, con materiales intencionalmente elegidos para ser perfectos, detalles al milímetros y cientos de revisiones en fábrica para que el resultado final sea a artesanal y perfecto. Como siempre, amor absolutos.

Vitamin Studio
Element Vessel nace como un intento de recuperar los procesos manuales, muy abandonados en la actualidad por las nuevas tecnologías de producción. No únicamente como forma de recuperar lo manual por la tecnológico, sino de crear una alianza entra ambos.
Esta edición limitada presenta tres diferentes bases. Alrededor de esta base, el propietario del objeto puede elegir la forma del anillo que sigue, entre una gran variedad de formas y materiales. Con este método, no únicamente se busca la interacción entre consumidor-diseñador, también la exclusividad de producto. Una vez se ha dispuesto un diseño, no se volverá a producir.
Qué decir de las combinaciones de formas, materiales y texturas.

The birth of CNC and Rapid Prototyping has in recent years contributed to a fall in the amount of traditional processes used in modern design. The drive for cheaper and cheaper mass produced parts and security in numerical operated machines has left skilled craftsmen fighting to keep their professions alive. Vitamin’s Element Vessel range explores mixing both traditional and modern processes showing that they can be used together in contemporary design.
The Limited edition objects have three variations of base. Around this base the owner can arrange and build their own shape using the many variations of ring made from the numerous material options. This unique purchase method does not only encourage owner interaction, but also ensures truly limited editions. Once a combination has been sold ten times, it will never be sold in this configuration again.
The rings are available in wide range of materials, including: Rose gold, Amber Gold, Silver, Polished Steel, Glass, Ceramic, Marble, Granite, American Black Walnut, Maple, American White Oak, Rapid Prototype and Cork. Modern processes include: Computer Numerical Control, otherwise known as CNC and Rapid Prototyping. Traditional processes include: Wood turning, Glass blowing, Metal turning, Metal Plating and Glass cutting.

Con este proyecto de hospitalidad móvil, el estudio polaco formado por Ania Rosinke (1985) and Maciej Chmara (1984), pretenden potenciar la responsabilidad y la iniciativa en los espacios públicos. La ciudad como espacio juega un papel difícil. Por una parte, no pertenece a nadie. Por la otra, pertenece a todo el mundo, pero prácticamente no usamos ese espacio activamente. Las actividades en lugares públicos decrecen día a día, ya no se le da la importancia que tiene. La responsabilidad por el espacio exterior es el punto de inicio de este proyecto de hospitalidad móvil.
El objeto principal del proyecto consiste en un una cocina móvil. Una cocina de madera, dotada de ruedas, para poder cambiar de espacio en espacio público, buscando dotar de vida los diferentes lugares dónde decida asentarse.

The project mobile hospitality (Mobile Gastfreundschaft) pays attention to an important aspect of our design work – the responsibility and the self-initiative in public space. The city plays as a space a difficult role. On the one hand it does not belong to anyone, on the other hand it belongs to all, but it is merely used by us actively, as it was in former times. It has decreased to the background of our everyday activities. Responsibility for the outdoor space, for most of the residents stops at their garden fence. The project mobile hospitality starts just here.
We were driving with the wheelbarrow kitchen, -table and ten folding stools from place to place to sit and eat in public space with spontaneously joining passers-by. At this big table, design meets delight and generates a very good opportunity to get to know each other.
The formal language of the objects is kept very clear and deals consciously with DIY aesthetics. All the objects are made out of massive wood and replenished with additional functions, like for example a foot pump for running water or pots with growing spices.
An important aim for our design process was to bring a smile to people passing by and to communicate with very basic means the sensuality and delight of food-culture.
All the objects are foldable and mobile.
The project in form of a happening took place in 2011 in Dornbirn, Bregenz, Feldkirch and Vaduz and was supported by Art Design Feldkirch.

Thom Fougere es un diseñador Canadiense centrado en explorar las relaciones entre objetos, productos, espacios y la vivienda.
El estudio que lleva su nombre fue fundado con objeto del diseño de mobiliario, pero continúa teniendo una fuerte conexión con el diseño de producto y la arquitectura -aquí es dónde yo añadiría que, hasta ahora, lo que trata son interiores.
Dos de sus productos que más me gustan son Tyndall Table y Steel Wood Table.

IMPROVISATION MACHINE / EXPERIMENTS #1

Cómo de maravilloso sería tener una maquinita que nos permitiera crear todo tipo de geometrías? Pues con esta cosa es con la que Annika Frye juega.
El resultado son una piezas geométricas que, a primera vista parecen cerámicas, pero que en realidad son de yeso, que es menos pesado y, demás, seca y endurece con más rapidez.

A series of rotational moulded pieces was made in a experimental production setup. By using a self-made rotational moulding machine I can produce variation instead of repetition. The moulds were made from simple geometric patterns, the material is a special plaster that hardens within short time. I also added wooden parts and other materials. The hollow objects were cut in order to create a vase/dish/container. The Machine, for me, is more than just a tool: I designed the machine itself by using basic characteristics of a piece of furniture such as brass fittings, multiplex and steel tubes.
The first series of pieces compromises different items such as vases, containers and bowls. Each object is unique. Still, all objects are related to each other as all forms are based on an octagonal grid.
A polymer plaster is used as casting material. It hardens within 30 minutes. The objects are sanded from the outside, their inside is covered with varnish.
Some objects were cut with a saw in order to create a container or a vase. In this way, the top and the bottom of the vase/container/dish can be produced within a single mould.
At the first glance, the material resembles to ceramics, but the plaster is more lightweight. Also, wooden parts and other materials can be added.
